Market Assistant


The Willimantic Farmers Market is seeking a committed and reliable team member to represent the Farmers Market at our table during market days. The market assistant will assist in managing the SNAP benefits distributed at market and share information about the various food assistance programs supported at the market. The Market Assistant will also help set up and break down the table and tent, sell merchandise at the market, and sign customers up to our “Friends of the Market” Program. 

This position is for our full 2024 outdoor season, located at Whitewater Park, 28 Bridge St, in Willimantic every Saturday 8:00am-12:00pm from May 11th to October 26th. Applicants must commit to fulfilling the entire market season.


7:45am-12:15am, every Saturday, May 11th-October 26th

Part Time: 4.5 hrs per week

Primary Responsibilities:

• Set up and break down the market tent and table.

• Educate customers on how to shop with their SNAP or FMNP dollars at the market

• Run the card machine EBT customers and distribute Fresh Match vouchers to farmers market customers

• Sign up Farmers Market regulars to our “Friends of the Market” program. 

• Provide FMNP match dollars to customers and use the tablet provided to record data on matching

• Maintain positive equitable relations with all market vendors and customers.

• Assist Market Manager when necessary

• Conduct customer counts twice per month.

Skills and Experience

• Spanish and English proficiency required

• Interpersonal skills, sociable personality

• Basic math and accounting

• Detail oriented

• Interest in nutrition, public health, and environmental issues preferred

• Able to bend and lift loads up to 30 pounds


• $16/hr
